Today NYC went into hurricane shut-down mode. I can honestly say it was a rather lackluster, extremely boring day.
I woke up, went for coffee and breakfast at Amy's Bread in Chelsea Market. I instantly realized a benefit of the hurricane coming: I got my neighborhood back. There were no tourists, no strollers, no visitors. Just locals. And not many people on the streets in general. It reminded me of why I originally moved to the hood in the first place - solitude.
After breakfast, I watched a bit of hurricane coverage on the news, which is not hard to miss at the moment because every channel is broadcasting their own updates, and then decided to go to the gym. Surprisingly enough, the gym was quite crowded. Got in a great workout, which is always a good thing, and then made another trip to the grocery store to ensure I have plenty of food to make me survive the storm.
The rest of the day I spent sitting on my couch flipping stations, talking to both of my parents, texting friends, and eating. Lots and lots of eating. I guess when you're bored like I was today you eat. And I have so much food in my apartment I can eat as much as I want and I'll still have plenty of food.
I moved my couch away from the window today. I didn't like it at first, but it's growing on me. I think once I get some of the crap from the old tv stand off the floor and put a table in the place, it will look really good. It'll look like a home. Finally.
Going to do a spot of reading and then hopefully drift off to sleep. Only to be awoken by the sound of my alarm in the morning. Not that of the hurricane howling at my windows.
Madonna's "Rain" has been in my head all day. Gorgeous song and video. Totally applicable for a rainy day like today.
