So Hurricane Irene is coming to New York City tomorrow evening, and she's bringing a whole lotta bad with her. The entire mass transit system in NY is shutting down for the first time in history as of noon tomorrow. Evacuations along coastal towns have begun. I am in Zone B, which means, I don't have to leave, but it might not be pretty once the storm gets going.
For now, I have plans on staying put in my apartment and watching over my place. I will put together a "go bag" like the Mayor says, in case I do need to leave my place quickly. My safety location is set to be Colin's apartment around the about a ten minute walk away. I went to Paragon after work and bought rain pants and a rain jacket since I haven't had one. It's a lovely shade of blue. It wasn't the exact jacket I wanted, but they didn't have the one I wanted in medium and I needed to get one, so I got a slightly different one. I may still end up getting the one I want anyways. If I don't end up using the one I bought, I'm returning it to Paragon and getting the one I wanted in medium, I'll just find it online.
Luckily I have those wonderful Wellington boots from Mrs. Ogilvy when I went to Chateau Touffou in France so I'll be able to wade through any flood waters if necessary.
The thing I'm most concerned about with my apartment is the windows blowing out. I'm moving the couch away from the window tomorrow. Luckily, I wanted to do that anyways, so it was good timing.
We may lose power. I may be confined to my apartment. I may have to escape my place and run for cover at Colin's. It's going to be such an adventure!
