An Earthquake in NYC

So today is the day that an earthquake made it's way to NYC. At 1:51pm this afternoon a 5.8 magnitude earthquake struck in Virginia and all along the east coast people felt the effects. I was at my desk when I started feeling a shaking sensation. I am quite used to vibrations like that from being in my apartment and having a big truck barrel down the street. The momentum of the truck does cause a vibration of my apartment building. I just figured it was something similar to that in the office, however, I had never felt something like that in the entire time of working in any office building in Manhattan. And then I noticed my plant was shaking. And then other people on the floor noticed it. We were half-joking about it being an earthquake, and I went on Twitter to see if it was just in our neck of the woods, but it wasn't. The news spread very quickly. Some buildings even got evacuated.

I love that my mom, the darling that she is, emailed me to see if I was okay. She couldn't call since the quake knocked out phone lines. She thought her house was collapsing. I imagine had I been alone it would have been a bit more frightening than inside my big spacious office surrounded by people.

I finally finished reading "Mini Shopaholic" tonight. Which is good because I've just added yet another book to my arsenal, the Patti Smith book about her relationship with Robert Mapplethorpe. I'll have to start that after I finish "The Help." One book at a time...
